DO YOU ENJOY CONSTRUCTION, SOLVING PROBLEMS & HEARDING CATS Zen Contracting is a well established residential construction and renovation company based in Asehville, NC. We specialize in custom homes, additions and major renovations throughout all of Western North Carolina We are looking for a Project Manager who already has a solid understanding of residential construction and wants to grow into a long-term leadership role within our company. The role is roughly a 50/50 split between field and office work and requires strong organization, communication, follow-through, and the ability to handle pressure professionally. This is not a passive office position. This is not a job for someone unfamiliar with technology. You do NOT need to know everything already. You DO need to communicate well with clients and subcontractors stay organized when things get chaotic solve problems quickly take ownership and care about doing good work We have systems, support, and senior leadership in place. We are not looking for someone to reinvent the company — we are looking for someone who wants to grow within it. Responsibilities Manage residential remodel and new-build projects throughout Western North Carolina Coordinate directly with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors Maintain schedules, documentation, and communication across multiple active projects Perform site visits and quality control walkthroughs Help solve construction, scheduling, and coordination issues in real time Keep projects moving forward with urgency and accountability Escalate larger issues when needed while handling day-to-day operations independently The right person for this role probably enjoys both field work and organization can communicate confidently and professionally with people stays calm under pressure takes responsibility without constant supervision wants a long-term career instead of jumping company to company every year appreciates systems, consistency, and accountability understands that construction can sometimes be stressful and fast-moving Successful candidates are usually people who naturally keep things moving forward instead of waiting to be told every next step. A few things worth mentioning This position is probably not a great fit for someone who: wants to sit behind a computer all day struggles with direct communication gets overwhelmed easily when multiple things are happening at once or prefers extremely slow-paced, highly structured environments Construction can be messy sometimes. Clients change their minds, subcontractors miss things, schedules shift, inspectors happen, materials get delayed, and part of the job is being able to stay calm and keep everyone moving in the same direction. We are much more interested in finding someone organized, dependable, coachable, and motivated who wants to grow with the company long-term than someone who already claims to know it all. Experience Preferred Residential construction experience strongly preferred Remodeling or custom home experience preferred Experience managing projects, people, schedules, or subcontractors is a plus Strong understanding of residential construction sequencing: Formal PM experience is not required if you already understand residential construction and are highly organized, dependable, and good with people.
