Job Description
Private family seeks a highly capable, hands-on Property Manager / Houseman to oversee and support their multi-property estate portfolio, including three Hamptons properties and a fully renovated New York City residence. This is a full-time, year-round position within a well-established, team-oriented household, offering the opportunity to work alongside long-tenured staff in a collaborative and respectful environment. The ideal candidate will be a true team player who can seamlessly assimilate into an existing, high-functioning staff, working in close partnership with housekeepers, chef, and administrative support. This role requires a “no task too big or too small” mindset, with a balance of operational oversight and hands-on execution. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable managing vendors, budgets, and preventative maintenance as they are stepping in to support service, assist with cleanup, or handle light property upkeep as needed. The role operates with distinct seasonality, requiring a high level of in-person presence in the Hamptons from Memorial Day through Labor Day, where the schedule is more demanding, weekend-heavy, and centered around entertaining. During this time, candidates should expect a late-morning start around 10am with extended hours based on household activity. The off-season transitions to a significantly lighter schedule, consisting of reduced hours, occasional remote oversight and periodic visits to the NYC residence. This position blends traditional property management responsibilities with a hospitality-driven, service-oriented component. The household experiences fluctuating intensity, ranging from quieter, independent work periods to high-touch entertaining, and requires a professional who is adaptable, proactive, and comfortable shifting between strategic thinking and hands-on support. The family values long-term staff retention and seeks a candidate who is low-ego, flexible, and committed to contributing wherever needed to ensure a seamless household operation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversee and manage all aspects of multiple properties, including three Hamptons residences and a New York City home Coordinate and supervise vendors (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, maintenance), ensuring timely and high-quality service Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules across all properties Oversee light project work and general property upkeep, with a focus on maintenance rather than construction Track budgets, manage invoicing, and maintain organized financial records related to property operations Communicate proactively with principals and staff, identifying and resolving issues before escalation Provide hands-on support during peak periods, including assisting with meal service, entertaining, and event execution Support the chef and household team with light cleanup, dishwashing, and general service needs Perform light property upkeep tasks such as window cleaning, car washing, and general tidying Assist with occasional chauffeuring as needed Collaborate closely with household staff to ensure seamless daily operations across all residences Take on ad hoc tasks as needed with a flexible, solutions-oriented approach Requirements Strong command of the English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent references from both current and previous employers Minimum of 5–10+ years of experience working full-time in a private household as House Manager, Property Manager, or similar hands-on role required REQUIRED Demonstrated ability to balance oversight responsibilities with hands-on execution Strong organizational, administrative, and reporting skills with the ability to manage multiple properties simultaneously Highly proactive with the ability to work independently and without micromanagement Service-oriented mindset with a willingness to assist across household functions, including service and light manual tasks Strong vendor management and problem-solving capabilities Financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, invoicing, and expense tracking Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage fluctuating workloads and seasonal demands Professional, discreet, emotionally intelligent, and team-oriented demeanor Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; confident and capable driver Valid passport with willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed Legally authorized to work in the United States Compensation $130,000 – $150,000 annually (commensurate with experience) + Discretionary Bonus Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package included
