JOB The purpose of the internship is to give experience to an individual in communications and social media for a local government organization. The position will work within the Wilmington Fire Department alongside the Public Information Officer and will be for a maximum of 300 hours. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Tasks will include: Research and curate content for department social media platformsTrack and analyze social media analytics for departmentAssist in creation of internal and external communications platforms (newsletters, posters/flyers, videos, magazine-style print publications, etc)Assist in the planning, production, and photography for video contentAssist in the maintenance of the department website and mobile appWrite press releasesAssist in planning department community outreach efforts (open houses, Citizens Academy, Junior Fire Academy, etc)Assist in the creation of a guided video tour of the Fallen Firefighters Memorial at Station SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The selected candidate will be required to complete a post-offer driving history, drug screen, *Fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checkThis position has been identified to interact with children and must comply with NC G.S. 153A-94.2(b) requires an applicant for employment that "works with children in any capacity, must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI.” These checks must be conducted in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26(Download PDF reader), the statute which authorizes the SBI to provide a fingerprint-based state and national criminal record check to cities and counties.
