Job Description
Job Title: Public Safety Manager (Overnight) Department: Public Safety Job Reports To: Director of Public Safety Status: Exempt Job Purpose: Responsible for providing the administrative and operational oversight of the overnight activities of the Arena Department of Public Safety. This includes the hiring, supervising, and training of the full-time and part-time unarmed overnight staff members. The Public Safety Manager assists the Director of Public Safety with the day-to-day overnight security operations, event operations and functions for Bridgestone Arena and the Nashville Predators. The Manager will be responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of the 3rd shift Public Safety Leads and Officers. This position will work closely with the Operations Overnight Manager in ensuring the overall safety of staff and the building. The Manager will also be responsible to serve as Manager on Duty for the Security Department on various Event Nights. Major Responsibilities/Activities: Manages the work of the 3rd shift Public Safety Officers and Lead. Responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling of overnight Officers and Lead. Motivates staff and maintains a positive and productive work environment and ensures this intent is communicated and adhered to by all subordinates. Evaluates staff, including appraising productivity, working with employees to correct deficiencies, making recommendations as to the interviewing, hiring, firing and advancement of overnight full and part-time employees. Ensures that staffing levels are appropriate during 24/7 operations and events. Ensure that staffing resources are properly briefed, deployed, and redeployed as necessary. Manages staff time records by using a computerized time and attendance system. Provides training and event night oversight for the personnel assigned to the arena’s security base. Provides oversight of security operations for all arena employees serving in overnight capacities. Prepares staff documents including staff deployment plans, event sign-ups, event notes and schedules for the overnight staff. Reviews event documentation and follow-up on various issues including Shift Logs and Tour Logs. Reviews, audits, and provides follow up of all Incident Reports, ensuring all reports are forwarded to the Legal Department in a timely manner. Monitors and reports on a continual basis all conditions which create security or safety hazards on company property; also, makes recommendations regarding prevention techniques, devices or equipment that would correct the hazard. Manages an inventory of security-related items such as handheld metal detectors, cameras, radios, keys and electronic card readers. Manages the Full Time State Security Licensing program. Ensures all officers are certified properly and conducts internal training classes to meet State requirements. Provides and teaches all necessary trainings for Full Time Security Officers. Responsible for the maintenance checks of the arena’s safety items (AEDs, x-ray units, etc) Will be called upon to work events outside of the overnight hours and be assigned as a Security Department Manager on Duty. Hours to fluctuate but in general, non-event assignment will be from 9pm-6am Tuesday through Saturday. Event hours will vary. Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director of Public Safety. Minimum Requirements: Must have prior experience serving in a role with event related duties. Previous employment with a sports and entertainment venue preferred. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience supervising a group of Event Staff/Security Staff required (stadium, arena, convention center, performing arts facility). Four (4) year college degree preferred. Ability to obtain four (4) hours (unarmed security) training by state certified trainer. Ability to demonstrate physical and psychological fitness. Knowledge of law enforcement, criminal law and security. Ability to manage tactical/emergency responses. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Able to obtain State of Tennessee Security Officer/Guard License. Strong, advanced technical skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) required. Proficiency in writing detailed Incident Reports. Experience with time management systems, 24/7 Software Incident Management Software, and 24-hour video surveillance systems preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
