The employee in this position collaborates with the Adult Services team to connect patrons with information, resources, ideas, and community opportunities; develops and supports engaging library programs; and helps expand the library’s presence and partnerships throughout the community.RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Head of Adult ServicesHas regular work contact with City employees, community groups, non-profit agencies and the general public.Supervises: none EXAMPLE OF DUTIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Provides responsive reference, research, readers’ advisory, technology, and facilitative assistance to patrons at all points of service, including desks, telephone, email, online tools, and other assigned service methods.Assists and instructs patrons in using library materials, digital resources, databases, technology, online services, and community information resources while supporting information literacy and digital literacy skill development.Plans, facilitates, and evaluates adult programs, book discussions, workshops, outreach visits, and major library programs that respond to community interests and library priorities.Collaborates with community organizations, local agencies, educational partners, and civic groups to promote library services and reduce barriers to library access.Serves as a member of the collection team by selecting, maintaining, evaluating, and deselecting assigned adult materials based on community needs, usage data, professional review sources, and library guidelines.Instructs, mentors, and supports Public Service Assistant IIs, staff, and volunteers in reference service, readers’ advisory, technology assistance, programming, projects, and assigned service responsibilities.Communicates and applies library policies, procedures, patron expectations, privacy requirements, and service standards clearly, consistently, respectfully, and professionally.Serves as Person in Charge when assigned, including responding to patron concerns, facility issues, behavior situations, safety matters, emergency procedures, and staff questions according to established procedures.Cooperates as a team member of Public Services, and other library staff to support efficient operations, consistent service standards, shared problem-solving, and positive working relationships.Completes individual projects of similar complexity and performs other duties as assigned that support Public Services and the overall mission of Hedberg Public Library.Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
