The Smidt Heart Institute is home to a distinguished team of experts who are setting the bar for cardiovascular care in the United States. The Institute brings together 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat all heart and vascular conditions. It serves patients from infants to those with advanced disease. Compassionate care is coordinated with a flexible research enterprise, providing patients access to groundbreaking treatments. The Quality Improvement Registered Nurse (QI RN) in Congenital Heart reviews all patient records for procedures performed in the CVOR and Cardiovascular Intervention Center (Cath/EP Lab). They gather data from clinical sources and statistical analyses for both internal and external purposes. The internal database supports volume and statistical reports, physician statistics, privileging and recredentialing, M&M, and reporting to the Performance Improvement committee. External data is submitted to national and state registries to align with requirements from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, insurance contracts, and OPSHD State of CA reporting. This data also contributes to US News and World Report. The QI RN abstracts and inputs data into various registries and presents findings in multiple settings. Key Responsibilities Data Review and Abstraction Perform detailed evaluations of patient records in Congenital Heart Abstract and compile statistics and clinical data for internal databases and external registries. Internal Data Management: Apply internal databases for generating volume/statistical reports and physician statistics. Support privileging, re-credentialing, and reporting for performance improvement committees. Contribute to Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) reviews. External Data Submission: Ensure adherence to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services by submitting data to national and state registries. Facilitate insurance contracting and align with OPSHD State of CA reporting requirements. Supply data for U.S. News and World Report. Registry Management: Input abstracted data into various registries, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) NCDR data registries, the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) registries, and the California Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Outcomes Reporting Program (CCORP). Collaboration and Presentation: Collaborate with the Document Management Specialist Supervisor and Heart Institute Managers. Collect and prepare data for public reporting. Present findings and data analyses in different environments. Performance Improvement: Actively participate in efforts to improve clinical outcomes and patient care quality within Cardiology. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred License/Certification: Current California RN License Certified Professional in Health Quality (CPHQ) preferred. Experience: Two (2) years of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Experience in clinical data management, healthcare quality compliance, registry management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ideally within a cardiovascular setting. Cardiac ICU experience.
