Quality Control (QC) Manager – Pipe Fabrication Facility Location: Woods Cross, Utah Are you a quality-driven leader with a passion for code compliance and welding excellence? Company Overview Pipe Fab is a trusted provider of high‑quality pipe fabrication services for power, refining, chemical, water, and industrial customers. As an ASME‑certified union fabrication shop holding our U and PP stamps, we are committed to safety, quality, and schedule. Our Woods Cross facility features qualified WPS/PQR/WPQ (ASME Section IX), in‑house NDE (RT/UT/PT/MT), a large PWHT furnace, and a dedicated blasting & coating facility aligned with SSPC, NACE, and AMPP practices. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced QC Manager to lead the quality program across our union pipe fabrication facility. This role ensures ASME (primarily B31.1/B31.3) compliance, controls welding procedures and qualifications, coordinates NDE, and oversees coating quality and documentation. The QC Manager partners with Production, Engineering, and Project Management to meet client specifications and delivery milestones. Reports to Plant/Operations leadership. Key Responsibilities Quality & Compliance: Own compliance to ASME/ASTM and client specifications; maintain ITPs, SDRs, hold/witness points, and release documentation. Welding Program (ASME Section IX): Manage WPS/PQR/WPQ continuity, essential variables, welder performance, and continuity logs. In‑Process & Final Inspection: Lead visual/dimensional checks, weld acceptance, and final spool verification against drawings and specs. NDE Coordination: Plan and review RT/UT/PT/MT with internal Level II resources and approved third parties; disposition results and retain records. Hydrostatic Testing: Oversee safe test set‑ups, pressurization/hold, acceptance criteria, and charting; verify test packages and sign‑offs. Material Control & Traceability: Ensure receiving inspection, MTR reconciliation, heat/lot traceability, and PMI where required. Coating Quality: Oversee surface prep, anchor profile, DFT measurement, holiday testing, cure verification, and coating documentation for shipment‑ready spools. Maintain NCR's: Lead root‑cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions; run internal audits and drive continuous improvement to ensure NCR's are non-repetitive. Team Leadership & Training: Supervise/mentor QC inspectors; qualify dimensional/receiving inspectors; maintain cert records (CWI/VT/NDE). Client Interface & Turnover: Represent Pipe Fab during audits/inspections and deliver complete data packages (WPS/PQR, weld maps, NDE, PWHT charts, hydro charts, coatings DFTs, MTRs, etc.). Qualifications: Required 5+ years of QA/QC experience in Welding/Fabrication (shop pipe fabrication experience strongly preferred) with demonstrated ASME Section I, V, VIII, B31.1, B31.3, B31.8, API 1104 application. Practical welding background and working knowledge of ASME Section IX (WPS/PQR/WPQ). AWS CWI - Expired is acceptable as long as it is renewed upon employment. Ability to read isometrics and shop sheet drawings. Proficiency with ITPs/SDRs, quality records management and understanding customer requirements. Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to pass background check and drug test. Preferred: AWS CWI (or equivalent VT credentials) NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector certification and hands‑on industrial coatings QA (SSPC/NACE/AMPP) Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy/Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or related field Experience in a union shop and with major owner/EPC specifications (refining/chemical/power) Paid Time Off & Benefits: Vacation: 5 days after 6 months of employment 10 days after 1 year of employment Sick Leave: 3days annually (take out, its not annually) after 3 months 5 days annually after 6 months Paid Holidays: New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4th), Pioneer Day (July 24th), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
