King County Metro Transits Rail Traction Power has an exciting opportunity for a Rail Electrical Worker Helper. King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle's streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 44.5-mile route from Federal Way to Lynnwood and a 14.8-mile route from Redmond to International District. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come. Rail Electrical Worker Helper assists journey-level Rail Electrical Workers in the repair, maintenance, and repair of rail traction electrification systems. This recruitment will immediately fill up to three [3] Career Service positions and may also be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future for future Career Service vacancies in this classification, valid up to 12 months or until exhausted and at the discretion of the hiring authority. Who May Apply This position is open to King County employees and the general public, although current members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 77, who are fully qualified to be dispatched for Groundman jobs may apply within the initial five (5) working days of this posting will be given first consideration. As the Rail Electrical Worker-Helper, you will : Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from trucks; may operate and drive line trucks as a backup as required. Inspect and hand equipment and materials to crew workers repairing power lines. Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around the repair site; alert crew workers of potential hazards. Assist crew workers in trimming trees, shoveling dirt and gravel, and performing other tasks required for maintenance. Assist transit vehicles around work areas. Alert drivers and operators to repair work. Respond to emergency calls for repairs during non-working hours as necessary. Inventory and maintain supplies, tools, and equipment. Clean work areas, tools, and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.
