As our Recreation Leader for Kids Club & Adventure Camp, you’ll create a safe, clean, and fun environment for youth in our before and after-school and summer camp programs by planning activities, prepping snacks, supporting and coaching staff, and guiding kids through everything from daily routines to off-site adventures. NOTE: When working Kids Club, Recreation Leaders will be scheduled to work a split shift. Candidates must be able to work both the morning shift, 6:45 AM – 8:45 AM and the afternoon shift 2:45 PM – 6:00 PM. When working Adventure Camp, Recreation Leaders will be scheduled to work a varying number of hours in a shift between the hours 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM. The Recreation Leader positions are not seasonal; they are year-round. This recruitment will fill positions at the Valley Recreation locations. These positions are 20-29 hours weekly. They do not qualify for health benefits but do include prorated sick and annual leave and PERS benefit. Primary Objectives Performs intermediate work leading and overseeing a variety of recreation and activity programs at assigned and/or designated recreation facilities. Performs related tasks as apparent or assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Supervision Exercised None PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the development, implementation, and conduct of recreation programs and activities, including direct supervision and guidance of youth participants; prepares lesson plans and leads games and craft activities; works as primary contact at camps and during off-site trips. Maintains records of programs and activities including, but not limited to, rosters, daily roll sheets/attendance records, time cards, and emergency contacts; ensures up-to-date and accurate contact list for parents and/or legal guardians and ensures that children are picked up in accordance with authorizations on file. May receive funds at events; maintains accurate inventory of program supplies, games, crafts, etc.; participates in the shopping/ordering of supplies and snacks. Inspects facility to ensure youth safety and maintains a clean and organized recreational area; cleans up spills and unsanitary conditions when they occur. Prepares supplies and materials for programs and activities and prepares snacks; arranges chairs, tables, and sporting or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities; operates audiovisual equipment, as needed. Coordinates activities; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; coaches, instructs, and provides training to employees as necessary; prepares activity and snack schedules; participates in training opportunities and attends staff meetings. Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties. Periodically drives children and other passengers in a county vehicle for off-site activities; monitors trip petty cash and activities of youth during recreational trips or tours; disciplines youth participants according to established policies and procedures, as necessary. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public. Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience leading recreational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
