JOB IMMEDIATE VACANCY IS SUMMER SEASONAL PART-TIME (UP TO 28 HOURS/WEEK) AT THE CITY'S DOWNTOWN OPERATIONS (LOCK 3) DIVISION.Required to work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.Applications received to this job posting will be maintained solely for summer seasonal positions. If a permanent vacancy arises, a separate job posting will be advertised. The season for employees in this class in the Downtown Operations (Lock 3) Division begins March 1 and ends November 1 each year. The season for employees in this class in the Recreation & Parks Division begins April 1 and ends December 1 each year.Employees with satisfactory work performance may be eligible for recall in subsequent seasons.This is professional and supervisory work in the City's year-round recreation program.An employee in this class assists in planning, implementing and supervising year-round recreation program activities for a City-wide program or at a community center. Works under the supervision of a senior Recreation Supervisor with considerable latitude for creative and responsive recreation programming and leadership. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Assists in planning, implementing and supervision of a variety of year-round recreation program activities and classes of instruction. Participates in the selection of permanent and seasonal staff and assists in their training, scheduling and supervision. Assists in the planning, setup, implementation and supervision of: various day-to-day recreation program activities at community centers, parks, play-grounds and school sites; sports and athletic program activities such as scheduling leagues, scorekeepers, umpires and sites, organizing teams, and calculating and publishing team standings; various community events such as concert series, dance performances, neighborhood festivals and downtown events; and older adult activities such as hiking/walking clubs, social and educational clubs, city-wide group events and trips. Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports. Performs related work as required. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION This is a classified position. The selection process will consist of a competitive examination with credit for education. A passing score must be obtained on the competitive examination in order to receive credit for education. TEST WEIGHTS: Competitive Examination 80%, Education 20%. Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment.NOTE: The competitive examination may be suspended if shown to be impractical because of an insufficient number of qualified candidates. The candidates will then be ranked in a standard manner based on 80% for qualifying, and 20% for education.RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades. VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.DRIVER'S LICENSE: An applicant having a valid driver's license from another state will be accepted conditionally provided that, if selected, an Ohio Driver's License must be obtained prior to appointment. Candidates having six or more points on their driving record at the time of appointment will be disqualified from further consideration.
