Summary The Registered Nurse - Intermittent Staffing Pool will demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious, deliberate planning and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex patient situations on this assigned unit where conditions and treatment are normally of a noncritical nature. They will be scheduled to provide supplemental staffing and augment the number of staff within their skill set. Duties This is an intermittent position, which is non-fulltime employment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. The Registered Nurse - Intermittent Staffing Pool is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.Major duties include, but are not limited to: Demonstrates clinical competence in performing initial history and assessment, Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), electrocardiogram, intravenous pumps, tube feeding, ceiling lifts, and verification of informed consent. Glucometer management, pulse oximetry, telemetry monitoring, patient teaching and follow appropriate respiratory isolation standards. Administers prescribed therapies using appropriate judgment; evaluation of therapies is pertinent and timely. Initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services appropriately. Assigns staff to provide care based on staff competencies and identifies priorities to ensure safe and effective patient care. Demonstrates correct responses to emergencies as well as initiates effective action in emergencies. Demonstrates understanding of infection control precautions. Completes initial assessments and reassessments of patient condition and response to treatment. Documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided. All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service.
