Job Description
Coordinate and participate in the administration of respiratory therapy modalities to adult, adolescent, pediatric, infant, and newborn patients with respiratory related difficulties in accordance with physician’s instructions. The registered therapist must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s departmental policies and procedures. Reports to the Director of Respiratory Services and receives input from the Charge Therapist. Experience: A minimum of 1 year acute care experience functioning as a Respiratory Therapist is desired. Experience with adult, pediatric, and newborn patients is preferred. Education: Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with a A.A.S. or B.S. degree in Respiratory Care. Credentials: Registered Respiratory Therapist credential granted by the NBRC is required. Must possess and maintain a current Virginia state license to practice Respiratory Care. BLS certification is required. ACCS and NPS certifications from the NBRC are encouraged. ACLS, PALS, and NRP are preferred and encouraged but not required.
