Job Description
Resurrection Medical Center, a leading healthcare facility in Chicago, IL, is seeking a dedicated Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care to adult, geriatric, and, as assigned, pediatric patients in both acute and critical care settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, you will assess patients’ pulmonary status, interpret diagnostic data, and implement individualized respiratory care plans that align with current evidence-based practices. Key responsibilities include performing respiratory assessments; administering aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, and chest physiotherapy; initiating, managing, and weaning patients from mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation; and responding promptly and effectively to respiratory emergencies, including rapid response and code blue situations. You will perform and interpret basic diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, pulse oximetry, and bedside pulmonary function screening, ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and clear communication of results to the care team. You will monitor patients for changes in respiratory status, adjust therapy within established protocols, and escalate concerns to the appropriate provider. As a key clinical resource, you will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use (such as inhalers, nebulizers, and home oxygen devices), and self-management strategies to support safe transitions of care. You will also collaborate on interdisciplinary care plans, contribute to discharge planning related to respiratory needs, and participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and safety. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgement, proficiency with ventilators and respiratory equipment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in high-acuity and fast-paced situations. Resurrection Medical Center offers a supportive environment that promotes ongoing professional development, including access to continuing education, cross-training opportunities in specialized areas (such as ICU, ED, and NICU, depending on experience), and the ability to participate in clinical committees and practice councils. As a Certified Respiratory Therapist at Resurrection Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health of the Chicago community by delivering evidence-based respiratory care, advocating for patients and families, and partnering with colleagues to continually improve the quality of care we provide. If you are a motivated respiratory care professional who is passionate about patient outcomes, collaboration, and lifelong learning, we invite you to consider joining our team.
