Job Description
Respiratory Therapist, Nights at Piedmont Healthcare Piedmont Healthcare, a non-profit healthcare system dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care across Georgia, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department for night shift coverage. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions, collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to deliver safe, evidence-based respiratory care. Working primarily in an acute-care hospital environment, you will assess, plan, and implement respiratory care plans for patients across the lifespan, including those in emergency, medical-surgical, step-down, and intensive care units. Your responsibilities will include performing thorough respiratory assessments, administering aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy, initiating and managing non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, and performing airway clearance techniques to improve ventilation and oxygenation. You will be responsible for drawing, analyzing, and interpreting arterial blood gases and adjusting therapy accordingly in collaboration with the medical team. As a night shift therapist, you will independently prioritize and respond to rapid changes in patient status, assist with emergency airway management, and respond to rapid response and code blue events. You will ensure proper setup, operation, and troubleshooting of ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP devices, oxygen delivery systems, and related respiratory equipment, adhering to infection prevention and safety standards at all times. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, clear communication of patient status, and participation in interdisciplinary rounds as needed are essential aspects of this role. Aligned with Piedmont Healthcare’s culture of respect, innovation, teamwork, and inclusion, you will contribute to a supportive environment where collaboration and continuous improvement are encouraged. You will be expected to follow evidence-based protocols, participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives related to respiratory care, and help educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, medications, equipment use, and discharge care plans. You may also assist with precepting new therapists or students as your experience grows. This position offers the opportunity to build a meaningful career in a setting committed to professional growth. Piedmont Healthcare provides access to ongoing training, clinical education, and development programs to support specialty certifications and advanced skills. If you are a detail-oriented respiratory professional who thrives in a fast-paced, night shift hospital environment and is dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, we invite you to consider joining Piedmont Healthcare and making a lasting difference in the lives of patients across our communities.
