Job Description
Sovah Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist, Registered (RRT), to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our hospital-based respiratory care department. As part of a dedicated, patient-centered healthcare system serving communities across southern Virginia and northern North Carolina, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality respiratory care to patients of varying ages and acuity levels. In this role, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans, and provide a full range of therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory procedures. Your responsibilities will include administering oxygen therapy, bronchodilator and other aerosolized medications, managing noninvasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and assisting with airway management in both routine and emergent situations. You will respond to respiratory emergencies and rapid response calls, participate in resuscitation efforts as part of the code team, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes. The Respiratory Therapist, Registered RRT, will utilize evidence-based practices and established clinical protocols to monitor patient responses, adjust therapies, and document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record. You will educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and self-care techniques, promoting understanding and adherence to treatment plans. Additional responsibilities may include conducting pulmonary function testing, assisting with sleep and diagnostic studies as applicable, and ensuring proper operation, cleaning, and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment in accordance with infection prevention and safety standards. Sovah Health fosters a culture of compassion, teamwork, and excellence, where every employee is valued and encouraged to pursue ongoing professional development. In this position, you will have opportunities to refine your clinical skills, precept or mentor newer staff as appropriate, and participate in quality improvement initiatives that support our mission of enhancing community health. Working a primarily on-site schedule within our hospital environment, you will be part of a collaborative respiratory care and nursing team that supports one another in delivering exceptional patient care across units such as intensive care, emergency, medical-surgical, and specialty areas. Qualified candidates will be graduates of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and hold the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). A current state license as a Respiratory Therapist, or eligibility to obtain licensure, is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications preferred or required within a specified timeframe depending on patient population served. Previous acute care hospital experience, particularly in critical care or emergency settings, is strongly preferred. At Sovah Health, you will join a mission-driven organization that offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on patients, families, and the communities we serve. In addition to working alongside a supportive, interdisciplinary team, eligible employees may enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that typically includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement savings options such as a 401(k), and access to professional development resources. This position is a full-time, on-site opportunity for an engaged Respiratory Therapist, Registered RRT, who is committed to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate respiratory care in alignment with Sovah Health’s standards of quality and patient-centric service.
