Generous paid time off 10 paid holidays per year Paid time when closed for Inclement Weather Comprehensive low deductible health, pharmacy and dental plans Vision insurance plan SIMPLE IRA Retirement Plan with a generous company match Pre-tax spending accounts for health care and childcare expenses Discounted YMCA membership Discounts on adoptions, retail store items, basic veterinary services and medicine, and pet food Employee Assistance Program POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title:Retail Associate Department:Retail Store Classification:Hourly Non-exempt REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Position Reports To:Community Engagement Director Positions Supervised:None POSITION PURPOSE This position is responsible for daily activities of the retail store located within the Kansas Humane Society.Effective and efficient operation of the store includes:(1) coordination of store operational details and trends to ensure maximum profitability; (2) maintaining effective inventory systems and expense and theft control; (3) tracking, ordering, pricing and displaying merchandise; (4) training and support of volunteers; and (5) ensuring excellent customer service is provided.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Customer Service:Provide and model timely, polite, and respectful internal and external customer service regardless of the circumstances.Must remain calm, flexible, and willing to see other perspectives.Assure that every individual who enters the Kansas Humane Society is recognized and treated as a potential donor.Operations:Oversee all activities in daily operations of the store.Fully utilize all aspects of point-of-sale software to: Process sales and sales tax, track inventory and re-ordering points, and assess product sales.Compile daily, weekly and monthly reports.Provide critical assessment of product sales, profit and expenses.Oversee inventory, organization, and display of merchandise, including weekly ordering, receiving verification and stocking.Review and oversee daily management of sales and cash and other payment types with appropriate staff and volunteers.Work directly with vendors to adhere to budget established for store operation.Incur non-budgeted expenses only upon approval of the Community Engagement Director.Adhere to current Standard Operating Procedures manual, manage scheduling and activities of the volunteers and create a positive work environment.Implement and enforce retail store policies as required and provide regular and periodic reports as requested.Help plan, create and implement a merchandise sales tent at the Kansas Humane Society's largest fundraiser, Woofstock via coordination with the Community Engagement Director.Schedule volunteers to work the event.Marketing Strategy:Using daily working knowledge of the retail store, recommend strategic marketing, promotional and sales opportunities, and creative ideas to bring foot traffic into the store as a destination, via coordination with the Community Engagement Director and Director of Marketing & Communication, as appropriate and within budget.Implement and assess approved strategies.Oversee interior and exterior aesthetics of the store, including merchandise display, janitorial, signage, etc., to promote the Kansas Humane Society.Product Education:Educate adopters, staff, and volunteers about retail products available for purchase.Quality Assurance:Responsible for rotating dated merchandise in order to provide the best product available.Training:Participate in staff training, cross training and development opportunities.Participate in special events/projects, cross training programs and regular shelter wide supervisor meetings.Safety:Comply with KHS Safety policies and procedures in order to maintain a healthy and safe environment.__________________________________________________________________________________________ KHS CORE VALUES The Kansas Humane Society has HEART:HAVE COMPASSION We have empathy and understanding for the community and pets we serve, our teammates and our partners in animal welfare EXEMPLIFY COMMITMENT We show our dedication in our work ethic and willingness to learn and grow.ACT WITH INTEGRITY We prioritize integrity in all our actions.RESPECT ALL We treat all animals and people with respect.THRIVE THROUGH COLLABORATION We are better together, united in our service to pets and their people.EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:High School Diploma or Equivalent REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:This position requires a high degree of customer service skills, flexibility, and a willingness to develop conflict resolution abilities.A respect for the human/animal bond is a must.Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions with limited supervision.Strong
