Learn more about this agency Duties Help You will serve as a Rigger / Diver for dive team activities that encompass all aspects of rigging, Underwater Ship Husbandry (UWSH) inspection, assessment, repair and other related work. You will accomplish a variety of rigging, diving, dive craft operations, recompression chamber operations and Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) operations in support of availabilities and repairs that require underwater diving intervention. You will select proper rigging equipment such as hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving, and securing heavy equipment, large structural parts, and other heavy loads. You will estimate sizes, weights, and equipment capacities, and plan for clearance and safety factors. You will fabricate, install, and repair standing and running rigging and wire or fiber rope articles, such as slings, towing bridles, nets, rope ladders, and other ship and boat rigging and weight handling gear. You will select proper underwater blanking devices such as cofferdam patches, box patches and plugs to support shipboard maintenance and repairs safely. The incumbent must be a graduate of U.S. Navy Second Class Dive school and be a certified U.S. Navy Second Class Diver or above diver. Diving qualifications are maintained in accordance with OPNAV 3150.27. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. This position requires onboard ship work. Incumbent must be able to pass a medical department dive physical and maintain physical requirements. Incumbent must qualify and maintain certification as a CAT 3 crane operator, forklift operator and Diving Services Vehicle (DSV) operator. Incumbent must be able to qualify and maintain radiation worker qualification to perform in water diving duties in a radiation area. Incumbent must be able to lift/carry items/loads weighing up to 100 pounds. Incumbent must be able to climb vertical ladders. Incumbent's vision must be within the normal range in both eyes. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
