Job Description
UCHealth is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for our Acute Care Orthopedics unit on the night shift. As a key member of our Healthcare & Medical Services team, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to adults recovering from orthopedic surgeries and injuries, including joint replacements, fracture repairs, and other musculoskeletal procedures. Working within a Colorado-based, nonprofit health care system dedicated to innovation, diversity, and inclusion, you will help deliver high-quality, evidence-based care that supports optimal recovery and patient satisfaction. In this role, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of acute orthopedic nursing care during night hours. You will perform timely and thorough patient assessments, closely monitor vital signs and post-operative status, manage pain using both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and provide expert wound and incision care. You will administer medications safely, manage IV therapies, follow post-surgical protocols, and promptly recognize and escalate changes in a patient’s condition. Using sound clinical judgment and critical thinking, you will collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and other team members to coordinate individualized plans of care. You will play a central role in patient and family education, explaining procedures, post-surgical restrictions, mobility guidelines, and discharge instructions so that patients and caregivers feel confident transitioning to the next phase of recovery. A strong focus on safety and quality is essential, including diligent fall prevention, infection prevention, accurate documentation in the electronic health record, and adherence to hospital and regulatory standards. As a night-shift RN, you will also support smooth unit operations by triaging incoming patients, assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and helping to maintain appropriate patient flow throughout the shift. UCHealth offers a collaborative environment where nurses are encouraged to contribute ideas, participate in process improvements, and pursue professional development. You will have access to ongoing training, education, and mentorship to strengthen your orthopedic and acute care skills, along with opportunities to seek specialty certification and advance your nursing career. In line with UCHealth’s culture of continuous improvement and inclusivity, you will be part of a team that values diverse perspectives, open communication, and mutual respect while working together to achieve excellence in patient care. This position is ideal for a nurse who is confident working independently on nights, is comfortable with fast-paced acute care, and is passionate about helping orthopedic patients regain mobility and function. A strong foundation in medical-surgical or orthopedic nursing, excellent communication skills, reliable clinical judgment, and the ability to prioritize effectively are all important for success on this team. UCHealth offers competitive pay, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits, as well as a supportive environment where your contributions are recognized and your growth is actively supported.
