Job Description
MLK Community Hospital, a private, nonprofit safety-net hospital serving South Los Angeles, is seeking a dedicated RN Clinical Staff Nurse for our 3rd floor Med/Surg/Telemetry unit on a full-time basis. This role is an opportunity to provide high-quality, culturally competent care to adult patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions in a modern, dynamic care environment. As a key member of the healthcare team, you will deliver direct bedside nursing care, relying on strong clinical assessment skills, compassionate communication, and sound clinical judgment to support optimal patient outcomes. Working on the Med/Surg/Tele unit, you will care for a varied adult patient population requiring medical, surgical, and cardiac telemetry monitoring. You will perform comprehensive and focused assessments, interpret telemetry and vital signs, recognize early signs of clinical deterioration, and promptly communicate changes in patient status to the interdisciplinary team. You will administer medications and IV therapies accurately and safely, manage complex treatment plans, perform wound and post-surgical care, and support pain and symptom management while closely observing for therapeutic and adverse responses. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and updating individualized care plans, collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, case managers, social workers, and other disciplines to coordinate safe and effective care throughout the hospital stay. You will document all care, assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner, supporting clear communication and continuity of care across shifts and disciplines. Education and advocacy are central to your daily practice. You will provide clear, compassionate teaching to patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, medications, lifestyle changes, and discharge plans. You will help prepare patients and caregivers for a safe transition home or to the next level of care by reinforcing follow-up appointments, medication regimens, wound and device care, and signs and symptoms that require immediate medical attention. Your approach will be rooted in respect, cultural humility, and an understanding of the social determinants of health that affect the South Los Angeles community. As part of MLK Community Hospital’s mission-driven, patient-first culture, you will actively contribute to a team environment that values equity, diversity, and accountability. You will participate in bedside huddles, interdisciplinary rounds, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and patient experience. You will follow evidence-based protocols, infection prevention and control practices, and hospital policies to reduce hospital-acquired conditions and ensure a safe environment for patients, families, and staff. You will also serve as a role model for compassionate, respectful communication with patients, families, and colleagues. The RN Clinical Staff Nurse on the 3rd floor Med/Surg/Tele unit must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity, safety-net setting that serves historically underserved populations. You will demonstrate strong time management and prioritization skills as you balance competing clinical demands, respond to rapid changes in patient conditions, and support safe patient flow, admissions, discharges, and transfers. You will use safe patient-handling techniques to assist with mobility, turning, ambulation, and activities of daily living, helping to prevent falls and pressure injuries. MLK Community Hospital offers an opportunity to build your career in an environment that emphasizes continuous learning, professional growth, and innovation. You will have access to ongoing education and training in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, cardiac rhythm interpretation, new technologies, and evidence-based best practices. You will be encouraged to pursue specialty certifications and contribute to shared governance, unit councils, and practice-improvement projects that shape nursing care on the unit and across the organization. By joining MLK Community Hospital, you become part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team deeply committed to improving health equity and outcomes in South Los Angeles. In this full-time RN Clinical Staff Med/Surg/Tele role, you will make a tangible difference every day for patients and families who depend on high-quality, compassionate care close to home, while advancing your professional practice in a supportive, innovative, and mission-driven setting.
