Job Description
MLK Community Hospital is seeking a compassionate, clinically skilled RN Clinical Staff nurse to join our 3rd floor Med/Surg/Telemetry unit on a part-time basis. As a private, nonprofit safety-net hospital serving South Los Angeles, MLK Community Hospital provides high-quality, culturally competent care to historically underserved communities. In this role, you will care for a diverse adult patient population with a wide range of medical-surgical diagnoses and telemetry needs, working in a modern, innovative care environment that prioritizes equity, compassion, and excellent outcomes. The RN Clinical Staff Med/Surg/Tele nurse delivers direct, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and complex medical-surgical management. You will perform comprehensive assessments, interpret telemetry strips, administer medications and treatments, coordinate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, and provide patient and family education focused on safe discharge and chronic disease management. Using sound clinical judgment, you will prioritize and manage a dynamic patient assignment, respond to changes in condition, escalate care appropriately, and uphold all safety, infection prevention, and quality standards. Working on the 3rd floor Med/Surg/Tele unit, you will collaborate closely with hospitalists, specialists, case managers, social workers, pharmacists, and ancillary staff to create and implement individualized plans of care. You will document accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record, participate in bedside shift report, and support initiatives that reduce readmissions, prevent hospital-acquired conditions, and improve patient experience. This position requires strong telemetry skills, the ability to interpret basic dysrhythmias, and comfort caring for patients with multiple comorbidities, including heart failure, diabetes, respiratory conditions, and renal disease. As part of the MLK Community Hospital nursing team, you will be expected to demonstrate a patient-first mindset, cultural humility, and respect for the lived experiences of the South LA community. You will contribute to a unit culture grounded in teamwork, accountability, continuous learning, and innovation. Part-time RN staff participate in ongoing education, skills validation, and quality improvement activities, and may serve as a resource or preceptor for newer staff as appropriate to their experience. This is an on-site, bedside role that requires flexibility with part-time scheduling, including potential evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on unit needs. MLK Community Hospital offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an underserved community while advancing your professional practice in a supportive, collaborative environment. Nurses on this unit benefit from a modern facility, interdisciplinary support, and a shared commitment to providing safe, equitable, and high-quality care to every patient, every time.
