Job Description
MLK Community Hospital is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Room team as a full-time night shift RN (7PM). As a private, nonprofit safety-net hospital serving South Los Angeles, MLK Community Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality, culturally competent emergency care to historically underserved communities. In this role, you will deliver direct, evidence-based nursing care to adult and pediatric patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. You will be responsible for rapid assessment, triage, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and escalating care when needed in collaboration with emergency physicians and the interdisciplinary care team. Using your strong critical thinking and prioritization skills, you will manage multiple complex patients simultaneously, perform timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record, and follow established protocols for trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, and other time-sensitive emergencies. You will operate and monitor emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, and ventilators, and will participate actively in codes and other life-saving interventions. Consistent with the mission and culture of MLK Community Hospital, you will provide patient-first, culturally sensitive care that respects the diverse backgrounds, languages, and lived experiences of the South Los Angeles community, communicating clearly with patients and families, offering education and emotional support, and advocating for equitable, compassionate treatment. You will collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, technicians, social workers, and other disciplines to coordinate safe, efficient care and facilitate smooth transitions, including admission, transfer, or discharge. As a member of a mission-driven, collaborative team in a modern emergency department, you will contribute to quality and safety initiatives, follow infection prevention and hospital policies, participate in continuing education and skills development, and support a culture of respect, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes. This full-time night position involves rotating weekends and holidays as required for 24/7 emergency coverage and offers the opportunity to grow professionally while making a direct, meaningful impact in an underserved community.
