Job Description
HealthONE is seeking a dedicated RN Surgical Oncology to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in Denver. In this role, you will provide specialized, evidence-based nursing care to surgical oncology patients across the continuum of care, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery and discharge. Working within a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, oncologists, anesthesiologists, advanced practice providers, and allied health professionals, you will play a key role in coordinating and delivering comprehensive, compassionate care to patients undergoing complex cancer-related surgical procedures. As an RN Surgical Oncology, you will perform thorough assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, administer medications and treatments (including chemotherapy and pain management protocols where applicable), and closely monitor patients’ responses, intervening promptly when changes occur. You will provide expert support in the operating room and on surgical oncology inpatient units, assist with pre- and post-op education, manage surgical drains and central lines, and ensure meticulous attention to infection prevention, skin integrity, and overall patient safety. You will collaborate closely with case management, social work, rehabilitation, and palliative care teams to support optimal outcomes and smooth transitions of care. Education and advocacy are central to this role; you will educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, symptom management, wound and drain care, and follow-up needs, ensuring they feel supported and informed at every step. You will also contribute to tumor boards, care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives focused on enhancing oncology care pathways and surgical outcomes. HealthONE offers cutting-edge medical technology and resources, giving you the opportunity to practice at the top of your license and participate in innovative approaches to cancer care. You will document care accurately in the electronic medical record, adhere to regulatory and accreditation standards, follow evidence-based protocols and clinical pathways, and support unit-based practice councils and shared governance activities. You will precept and mentor newer nurses and students as needed, helping foster a learning environment aligned with HealthONE’s culture of excellence and compassion. Ideal candidates bring strong clinical assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and a calm, patient-centered approach in fast-paced, high-acuity settings. Prior experience in surgical, oncology, or med-surg environments is strongly preferred, along with familiarity with chemotherapy precautions, complex pain management, and oncology symptom management. You should be comfortable working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by patient needs. At HealthONE, you will join a team that values collaboration, integrity, and respect while making a direct, meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families. You will have access to ongoing professional development, oncology-specific education, and career advancement opportunities within one of Denver’s leading healthcare systems, all while contributing to our mission of superior patient care and commitment to community health and safety.
