Will operate a variety of construction and light vehicle equipment.RT II: Operates a variety of equipment involving the manipulation of auxiliary controls; performs a variety of manual tasks associated with Public Works. This position operates a variety of medium to large sized trucks and equipment involving the manipulation of auxiliary controls and performs a variety of manual tasks associated with public works. RT II performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads, bridges, culverts and other related structures including rock crusher. A RT II demonstrates self-control, situational awareness, proper planning, caution, and foresight when using heavy equipment.RT III: This position is based on assignment and will be reposted every 12 months and will participate and function as part of the leadership team. Employee operates a variety of medium to large sized trucks and equipment involving the manipulation of auxiliary controls and performs a variety of manual tasks associated with public works. RT III-Team Lead performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads, bridges, culverts, and other related structures including rock crusher. A RT III- Team Lead demonstrates self-control, situational awareness, proper planning, caution, and foresight when using heavy equipment.Distinguishing CharacteristicsRT I: Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director or Public Works Supervisor and may report for daily work assignments to a RT II, or RT III-Team Leader. Supervising other staff is not a normal responsibility of this class. The RT I represents the second level of the Road Technician career ladder. RT I will be qualified to participate with RT II in any skill area, however, will concentrate on general labor and use of hand tools and lighter duty equipment.RT II: Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director or Public Works Supervisor and may report for daily work assignments to a fellow RT II, or RT III-Team Lead. Demonstrates leadership and may be called upon to direct subordinates in regard to material and equipment needs for specified projects. The RT II is the second, and senior level in a multi-tiered career path for maintenance and construction of public works. Advancement potential exists to RT III-Team Lead for incumbents having advanced skills in multiple unrelated areas, for example, heavy equipment professional, crusher operation, certified welder, and private heavy civil construction professional. RT III: Team Leader is the senior and master-level in a career path for maintenance and construction of Public Works infrastructure that include roadways, storm-sewer drainage and rock crusher operations and is responsible for the overall productivity of the crew that leads and performs a variety of skilled to general labor work in connection with the construction, repair, and maintenance of roadways, and related public works infrastructure. This position works under the general supervision of a PW Supervisor and may work as a lead person to direct subordinates in regard to material and equipment needs for specified projects, may act as PW Supervisor in their absence. May be called upon to supervise and direct subordinates, crusher and road projects. The RT III-Team Lead functions as a department leader and as such must be a highly skilled equipment operator of large machines such as a motor grader, asphalt paver, wheel loaders, track loaders, backhoe loaders, excavator, crane, and bulldozers. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES RT I: Perform heavy manual labor, digging ditches, asphalt patching and paving, chip sealing, asphalt crack sealing, concrete placement, cleaning and installing culverts, cutting and burning brush and trees, spraying weeds, removing obstacles from roadway and adjacent areas, hand loading and unloading all types of materials into trucks.Work and perform duties at the rock crusher under supervision.All duties will be performed with appropriate PPE and safety requirements metComplete routine manual work preparing and installing traffic signs, repairing guard rails, fences, signposts, and mailboxes.Control traffic manually through and around construction and maintenance projects.Operate a variety of medium to large equipment including dump trucks also includes
