BRIEF DESCRIPTION The Sanitation Equipment Operator II operates trucks/equipment to collect refuse, recyclables and other materials to transport within city limits. Operates various pieces of equipment and technology to ensure that the city’s streets and alleyways are clean and free of debris. Code Essential Functions 1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice 2 M Acts as a lead worker by ensuring units are inspected prior to and after routes, and providing routine information and training to workers. 3 M Maintains and inspects trucks and equipment by reviewing condition prior to beginning routes, completing inspection reports, notifying supervision, re-inspection at the end of the route, cleaning, sanitizing, and reporting malfunctions and items needing repair. 4 M Collects, moves or relocates trash and refuse by operating trucks and large vehicles, driving routes or at the landfill, and ensuring trash is collected regularly and is in its appropriate landfill location. 5 M Performs customer service actions by moving blocked carts, calling in misplaced carts, fixing wheels and lids, tagging carts improperly set, and picking up loose materials. 6 L Executes route by using tablet software for ensuring trash is collected appropriately and efficiently. Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires High school graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college Mathematical Requirements Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculates ratios, rates and percentages. Communications Requirements Reads routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures, or work orders; writes routine sentences and completes routine job forms and incident reports; speaks routine sentences using proper grammar. Judgement Requirements Makes a few decisions, affecting the individual and a few co-workers; works in a stable environment with clear and uncomplicated written/oral instructions but with some variations from the routine. Complexity of Work Performs skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
