Job Description
Job Duties This position is responsible to ensure heat relief space is open and welcoming during program hours, offering referrals for housing and shelter as needed to those community members seeking relief from the summer heat. You will be responsible for ensuring participants have access to cold water, restrooms, light snacks, and access to electricity for the purpose of charging personal devices. Work collaboratively with the Neighborhood and Family Services team, community-based partners, and other city departments. Shift details: May 1, 2026, through September 30, 2026, on weekend days (Saturdays and Sundays) and on summer Holidays (May 25, 2026, June 19, 2026, July 4, 2026, September 7, 2026) from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Experience working with community-based partners. Experience working with vulnerable populations including individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Familiar with resources in Avondale, Litchfield Park, Goodyear, and the greater Phoenix area. Ability to utilize and work across several databases simultaneously throughout the workday and collect required program statistics. Ability to adapt and adjust to a rapidly changing and dynamic environment. Knowledge of trauma informed care principles and best practices in delivering human services. Comfortable and able to communicate kindly and professionally with the public over the phone, in-person, and via email. Skilled in providing attention to detail and reliable. Organized and manages time well. Thrives in a high paced deadline driven environment. Key Responsibilities: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the hydration station area. Complete intakes Refill hydration supplies throughout the day. Monitor supply levels and communicate restocking needs to the appropriate staff. Provide friendly, helpful interactions with visitors. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are followed (e.g., sanitizing surfaces, avoiding cross-contamination). Set up and break down heat relief space as needed. Support wellness initiatives by encouraging hydration and sharing basic tips (as trained). Report any maintenance issues (e.g., dispenser malfunction, leaks) promptly. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual English and Spanish. Two (2) years of Human Services experience. Ability to pass background check and obtain a level 1 fingerprint clearance card High School Diploma or equivalency. Work requires broad knowledge in a general profession or technical field.
