Summary OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039-hour season.This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season(s) reflected in this announcement.See the Additional Information section for details.Learn more about this agency This job is open to The public U.S.Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) Federal employees whose job, agency or department was eliminated and are eligible for priority over other applicants.Clarification from the agency U.S.Citizens, Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP), Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP), Reemployment Priority List (RPL) Duties The parks and duty stations hiring for these positions are below, as is each park's anticipated seasonal period.The typical seasonal period may vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.Denali National Park and Preserve:Denali Park, AK (May - September) Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park:Skagway, AK (April - October) Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve:Bettles, Eagle and Circle Hot Springs, AK (May - October).Applicants that apply to and are selected for Circle Hot Springs will be duty stationed at Coal Creek Camp, AK.Selectees may be moved between duty stations within park boundaries.Positions may not be filled at every duty station.The primary purpose of this position is to perform moderately heavy physical labor requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment involving any or all the following duties:Maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails by operating heavy power equipment, such as power and lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and all types of hand tools (shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.).Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, and dollies.Move heavy items using wheelbarrows and hand trucks.Maintain buildings and grounds, including moving furniture; removing and setting signs; painting picnic tables and signs; raking and watering lawns; trimming trees and shrubbery; picking up litter; cleaning fire pits, etc.Dig ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where soil is hard and compact and must be graded or sloped.Break up pavement, soil, or concrete; mix and pour concrete, asphalt, and hot/cold mix; fill and level holes in damaged roads.Cut heavy trees with an axe or chain saw, stack heavy logs, lumber, and sacks of cement.Clean and maintain equipment.Perform janitorial duties for buildings.Physical Demands:The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort.The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.Working Conditions:Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions.Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops.Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes.Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.Government housing is available at Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.It may be available at Denali National Park and Preserve and Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.Please visit find a park for additional park information.A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected.The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.Requirements Conditions of employment U.S.Citizenship required.Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.Positions at Circle Hot Springs (Coal Creek Camp) and Eagle are subject to drug testing based on the collateral duty requiring firearms in the back-country or other locations for non-law enforcement reasons such as protection from animals.Selectees for those positions will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.They will also be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.Positions at Skagway will be required to obtain/maintain a valid US Passport or US Passport Card.You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.A uniform allowance will be provided.You may be required to work on-call, evening
