Description Title of Position Self-Guided Study Teacher Directly Responsible to Deputy Executive Director Status Exempt Primary Functions Serve as the Supporting Teacher for a cohort of up to 25 independent studies students in grades 6-12. Work closely with the SGS coordinator to develop the Self-Guided Study (SGS) program, focusing on curricular programming, implementation, and evaluation. In partnership with the SGS coordinator, the Self-Guided Study Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing the SGS program in accordance with the school’s mission and vision. This position requires effective communication with all stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, and staff. Directly Responsible to: Deputy Executive Director Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree: Valid CA Teaching Credential; TB Test Clearance & Department of Justice background clearance; Direct experience in curriculum development as it relates to Constructivism, Whole Child, and state standards; An enthusiasm for instructional leadership and curriculum development to support a young and growing school program. Essential Functions Teacher Provide individualized academic and social/emotional support to a cohort of up to 25 independent studies students. Coordinate, evaluate, and supervise students’ independent study as outlined in students’ formal independent study written agreement. Design and implement weekly synchronous instruction, utilizing various instructional strategies and tools to meet diverse student learning needs. Plan and schedule opportunities for daily live interaction for academic or social/emotional support, school connectedness, and progress monitoring. Schedule weekly 1:1 meetings with each student to review academic progress, provide support, and provide feedback on student work. Implement strategies and modifications that best meet students’ diverse learning needs (Specifically regarding adopted online curriculum). Maintain regular communication with students’ parents or caregivers regarding their academic progress or other school concerns. Monitor daily student engagement and evaluate the time value of student work for attendance reporting. In collaboration with the SGS coordinator, maintain detailed records of student attendance and participation in both synchronous instruction and live interaction in compliance with CA educational law. Publish, communicate, and document end-of-semester student grades. Assist the SGS coordinator in the maintenance and storage of student records. Plan and implement mid-semester parent/teacher conference meetings to review progress towards the goals stated in students’ formal independent study written agreement. Coordinate with parents/families to collect and maintain required paperwork and student work samples. Attend regular SGS team meetings. Develop rapport with in-person program teachers and administrators by attending network-wide and site-based professional development sessions. Work with the SGS Coordinator to administer CAASPP, CAST, PFT, MDTP, and other assessments. Support the SGS coordinator in ordering and distributing materials to students/families as needed. Communicate to the Deputy Executive Director any unusual situations (i.e., advise immediately of any evidence of student substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.) Partner with the Special Education Secondary Manager and Special Education case managers to implement student IEPs as needed. Work with parents, faculty, and administration to interpret and implement accommodations as recommended in psychological and educational testing reports. Attend pre-admissions IEP and 504 meetings to determine the appropriate placement of prospective students/families with IEPs or extensive services. Protect the confidentiality of records and information about students and families, exercise confidentiality of records and information about students and families, and use discretion when sharing such information within legal confines.
