Position Summary The Senior Accountant is a hands-on accounting professional responsible for personally performing key accounting and timely financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and the rules and regulations of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This role supports the Accounting Manager with the monthly close process, preparation of SEC filings (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and related disclosures), and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). This position is not primarily supervisory. Instead, the Senior Accountant directly prepares financial statements, maintains accounting records, supports SEC filings, and ensures compliance with internal controls and reporting standards. In a small corporate environment, this position requires a working accountant who executes day-to-day accounting activities while supporting complex financial reporting requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hands-On Accounting and Close Activities Perform key elements of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process. Oversee staff responsible for lower level accounting and reconciliations. Prepare and review complex journal entries and account reconciliations. Analyze financial statement variances and provide explanations. Maintain general ledger integrity and enforce accounting policies. Support budgeting and forecasting processes as needed. Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting records. SEC Reporting & Financial Disclosure · Prepare and support SEC filings including Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K. · Prepare supporting schedules for Management’s Discussion & Analysis (MD&A). · Coordinate with external auditors and assist in responding to audit requests. · Ensure compliance with SEC requirements. Internal Controls & Compliance Assist with maintaining and documenting internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including control testing support. Support management’s annual assessment of ICFR. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance control and efficiency. Ensure accounting procedures and processes comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Cross-Functional Support Work closely with executive leadership to support financial reporting deadlines. Provide accounting support to operational teams when needed Support special projects including automation and system implementations, and budget development. Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. Active CPA license strongly preferred. Experience 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Public accounting experience strongly preferred. Direct experience preparing or auditing SEC filings required. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Ability to independently perform detailed accounting work in a small-team environment. Experience with financial reporting software. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to meet reporting deadlines.
