Job Description
A growing specialty insurance organization is seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to support reserve accounting and financial reporting activities tied to property and casualty insurance operations. This individual will work closely with finance and actuarial stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of reserve-related balances, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with applicable accounting standards. The role offers strong exposure to cross-functional collaboration, process enhancement initiatives, and regulatory reporting. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post reserve-related journal entries, including claim reserve activity and incurred but not reported (IBNR) estimates Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations between actuarial analyses, subledgers, and the general ledger Assist with period-end close activities, reserve fluctuation analysis, and management reporting Partner with actuarial and finance teams to evaluate reserve movements and support accurate financial statement presentation Develop and maintain reserve roll-forwards, loss trend analyses, and supporting schedules Support compliance with U.S. GAAP and statutory insurance accounting requirements Assist with audit requests by providing reconciliations, documentation, and reserve support schedules Contribute to statutory reporting and insurance-related schedules, including reserve disclosures and supplemental exhibits Maintain and strengthen internal control procedures and process documentation Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, automate recurring tasks, and improve reporting efficiency Utilize advanced Excel functionality, reporting tools, and database queries to analyze and present financial information Support ad hoc reporting initiatives, operational projects, and department priorities as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may also be considered 4+ years of accounting or financial reporting experience, ideally within the insurance industry or reserve-focused environment Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles; exposure to statutory accounting and insurance reporting preferred Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures Familiarity with reserve accounting concepts and interaction with actuarial reporting is highly desirable Exposure to insurance regulatory reporting and reserve schedules preferred Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; experience with PowerQuery, PowerPivot, SQL, or similar analytical tools is a plus Experience working with ERP or general ledger platforms such as Oracle, SAP, or comparable systems preferred Understanding of internal controls, audit support, and compliance processes preferred Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to communicate financial impacts clearly across technical and non-technical teams Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, collaborative, deadline-oriented environment with multiple competing priorities
