Overview A leading organization is seeking a Senior Application Programmer – Mainframe Systems to lead and support the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of complex mainframe applications. This role plays a critical part in delivering high‐quality, secure, and reliable enterprise systems by translating business and system requirements into robust application solutions. The position requires deep hands‐on mainframe expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work closely with technical and business stakeholders. This role will initially require full onsite work with a gradual transition to limited telework based on project needs. Responsibilities Lead and contribute to the design, development, modification, testing, implementation, and support of complex mainframe applications Analyze and refine system and business requirements; translate requirements into application designs and prototypes Design application and system architecture, including data structures, interfaces, and output formats Write, debug, optimize, and maintain production‐quality code Integrate application software with databases, middleware, and operating system components Perform application testing with users and stakeholders to validate functionality and quality Ensure compliance with information security and information assurance policies and standards Conduct software quality assurance activities to ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability Prepare and maintain technical documentation, program specifications, and operational guides Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and enhancements Collaborate with cross‐functional teams to support enterprise application delivery Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate technical concepts clearly Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year‐for‐year basis 7+ years of experience in electronic data processing systems design and programming Mandatory: At least 7 years of hands‐on experience with ADABAS / NATURAL programming Strong experience with mainframe application development and support Ability to work independently and lead complex technical initiatives Strong written and verbal communication skills Technical Skills Languages & Frameworks COBOL Natural / SuperNatural Assembler SAS CICS IMS/DB/DC DB2 / SQL MF FOCUS Tools & Utilities MVS JCL TSO / ISPF CA Gen (CoolGen) CA Endevor CA Spool CA OM Web Viewer IBM OPTIM FILE Manager SPUFI ICEMAN / ICETOOLS / SORT VSAM CLIST FTP Debugger N2O Databases DB2 IMS ADABAS FOCUS Operating Systems & Platforms z/OS IBM WebSphere Additional Technologies EntireX ASP HTML Cloverlea
