Senior Backend / Cloud Engineer (Java + Event-Driven Microservices)

Job Title: Senior Backend / Cloud Engineer (Java + Event-Driven Microservices) Company Overview: A leading organization focused on modernizing enterprise platforms through cloud transformation, event-driven architecture, and scalable microservices. Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Senior Cloud Engineer with strong Java backend expertise and deep experience in messaging systems. The ideal candidate will drive modernization initiatives, lead cloud onboarding, and implement scalable, event-driven solutions using Kafka and microservices architecture. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop scalable Java-based backend systems Work closely with development teams on modernization initiatives Lead containerization and cloud onboarding of services Implement and drive adoption of event-driven architecture using Kafka Manage and optimize messaging systems including Kafka and Redis clusters Drive CI/CD adoption using GitLab pipelines and release automation Champion modern testing practices across teams Ensure best practices in microservices architecture and system design Required Qualifications/Skills: Strong experience in Java backend development Hands-on experience with Kafka and Redis clusters Solid understanding of messaging systems and event-driven architecture Expertise in microservices architecture Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) Experience with GitLab CI/CD and release automation Strong collaboration and leadership skills Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform) Exposure to enterprise modernization programs Knowledge of M1 pipelines Experience Level: Senior Level (7+ years preferred) Location: Whippany, NJ (Hybrid)
