Senior Billing Specialist

Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Billing Specialist to join our dynamic finance team. Responsibilities Manage the full cycle of billing activities, including invoice creation, review, and distribution for diverse clients and departments. Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) regulations during all billing processes. Conduct detailed analysis of accounts receivable and accounts payable to identify discrepancies and resolve billing issues promptly. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including medical collections, governmental agencies, or nonprofit organizations—to facilitate revenue cycle management and ensure accurate CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology) for medical billing. Perform account analysis using financial concepts and analysis skills to optimize revenue flow and improve cash collection processes. Reconcile accounts regularly, prepare detailed reports, and maintain meticulous records of all billing transactions in compliance with internal controls. Demonstrate excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills when communicating with clients or internal stakeholders regarding billing inquiries or disputes. Support audit preparations by maintaining organized documentation related to public accounting standards and technical accounting practices. Skills Strong understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms; experience with financial software is highly desirable. Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-10 codes, and medical billing procedures. Expertise in accounts receivable/payable management, account reconciliation, journal entries, double-entry bookkeeping, and revenue cycle management. Excellent analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately. Familiarity with non-profit accounting practices is a plus. Strong math skills including 10-key typing accuracy; attention to detail is essential for success in this role. Effective negotiation skills for resolving billing disputes or collections issues while maintaining positive client relationships. Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently while demonstrating professionalism through phone etiquette and customer service excellence.
