Job Description
JOB Ventura Superior Court is accepting applications to fill a vacancy.Under general direction of a Deputy Executive Officer, a Court Interpreter Services Manager provides oversight to court interpreter services; and performs related duties as required.This position has also been designated to be the Language Access representative for Ventura Superior Court. The Language Access representative will serve as the court's language access resource for all court users, as well as court staff and judicial officers, and should be familiar with all the language access services the court provides; access and disseminate all of the court's multilingual written information as requested; and help limited English proficient (LEP) court users and court staff locate language access resources. Rule 2.850 adopted effective January 1, 2018.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Court Interpreter Manager is a management class responsible for staffing within assigned courts and full scope of supervision over Court Interpreters. The Court Interpreter Manager may provide back-up for staff by providing Interpreter services as in an emergency to support trial calendars. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Supervises and evaluates court interpreter staff; participates in employee selection and training of the interpreter staff; establishes performance expectations; takes appropriate performance coaching and corrective action as necessary.Coordinates courtroom coverage and assigns Court Interpreters to court departments; arranges pro tempore Interpreter services as needed to cover all court interpreter matters; maintains a calendar of judicial officer and Interpreter vacations and other scheduled time off work.Works with other Court Interpreters to draft court interpreter policies and procedures based on evaluation of work processes and changes in state law, regulation and local court rules; evaluates legislative and administrative proposals for changes in court interpreter services and makes recommendations to Court administration. Reviews and approves court Interpreter billings, reconciles claims with assignment records.Participates and attends regular meetings, forums, trainings or committees and makes recommendations.Develops budget submissions requiring justification (e.g., routine cost benefit analysis) and involving consideration of alternatives; reviews accounting reports.Maintain files, records and documentation in accordance with government standards, laws, regulations, court procedures and policies.Maintains the confidentiality of pertinent records and documents.Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with judicial officers, court employees, governmental agencies, members of the public and others encountered in the course of work.Exercises independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.Provides court interpreter services as needed.Other Duties: Performs a variety of special projects and analyses as assigned.Performs other court-related duties as assigned.
