Job Description
Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development and integration of advanced mechanical systems and products from concept through production. This role requires strong ownership, hands-on engineering skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with electrical, optical, photonics and systems engineering teams to develop reliable, manufacturable and high-performance products. The role involves mechanical architecture development, precision packaging, thermal and structural analysis, prototype validation and support for manufacturing and system integration activities. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design and development of complex assemblies and systems from concept to production Create detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and BOMs Develop and maintain engineering documentation using PDM/PLM systems while following company design standards and revision control processes Collaborate closely with: Electrical engineering teams for PCBA integration and thermal management, Optical and photonics teams for alignment-critical and precision mechanical interfaces, Systems engineering teams to support product integration, validation, and overall development processes Perform engineering analysis including: Structural & Modal analysis Drive DFM/DFA efforts with internal teams and external vendors Support prototype builds, testing, debugging, and validation activities Work with suppliers and manufacturers on fabrication processes including CNC machining, sheet metal, extrusion and casting Develop solutions for environmental sealing, thermal management, cable routing, and precision alignment challenges Support product qualification and reliability testing in the future Generate assembly instructions, test procedures and engineering change documentation Contribute to improving engineering workflows, standards and development processes in a startup environment Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience Strong proficiency in SolidWorks Experience with PDM/PLM systems and engineering release processes Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical fundamentals Experience with FEA and engineering simulations Hands-on experience with prototyping and manufacturing processes Strong understanding of: Mechanical system integration, Thermal management, Precision mechanical design, Materials and manufacturing methods Experience working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary engineering teams Strong communication and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Experience working in startup or fast-paced product development environments Experience with optics, photonics, LiDAR, imaging systems, or precision alignment mechanisms Experience with electronics packaging and PCBA integration Familiarity with environmental sealing and IP-rated enclosure design Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing and supplier management Key Traits Strong ownership and execution mindset Comfortable handling ambiguity and fast iteration cycles Ability to balance performance, manufacturability, cost and schedule Hands-on and detail-oriented Collaborative team player capable of working across multiple engineering disciplines About SiLC Join us at our cutting-edge 4D vision sensor company based in Monrovia, CA, where we're revolutionizing the field of machine vision!
