Energy Talent Search is working with an engineering consulting firm known for handling technically demanding building systems projects. They’re looking to add a Senior Commissioning Engineer who can step in and lead the validation and performance of mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems across large-scale facilities. This isn’t a passive review role—you’re the person making sure systems actually perform the way they’re supposed to before a project is turned over. Where You’ll Add Value Taking the lead on commissioning efforts across multiple phases of a project—from early planning through final turnover Driving system validation across HVAC, electrical infrastructure, backup power, and critical safety systems Coordinating and executing performance testing, including more complex scenarios where multiple systems interact Getting involved early enough in projects to identify gaps, risks, or design issues before they become problems Confirming installations are test-ready and aligned with overall system intent Diagnosing performance issues and working through solutions in the field Keeping documentation clean, organized, and actionable throughout the process Acting as a key point of contact with clients, contractors, and internal teams Requirements What the Role Looks Like Combination of office work, field activity, and live system testing depending on project phase Involvement from early-stage design conversations through final system sign-off Travel tied to project needs (generally in that ~30–40% range) Mix of hands-on technical work and coordination across multiple groups Why It’s Worth a Look Exposure to complex, high-performance building systems Opportunity to work across mechanical, electrical, and controls—not siloed Strong technical role with real impact on project outcomes Ability to lead efforts and mentor others as projects scale Additional Notes Must be able to meet standard project-related background requirements Relocation support may be available depending on the situation Benefits What They Need Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline) Strong background working with building systems—especially where multiple disciplines intersect Experience leading commissioning or system validation efforts on complex projects Ability to troubleshoot and think through problems in real time Comfortable running meetings and interacting directly with clients and project teams Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or working toward it
