Job Description
Senior Platform Engineer Build the infrastructure that powers a large scale travel insurance marketplace. A growing digital platform in the travel insurance industry is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help evolve its infrastructure, reliability, and internal developer ecosystem. Millions of travelers rely on the platform to compare and purchase insurance coverage with confidence. Behind that experience is a modern engineering environment that must remain reliable, secure, and scalable as the product grows. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building systems that enable other engineers to move faster and more safely. You will help shape the foundation of the platform, introducing automation, improving observability, strengthening security practices, and building tooling that simplifies development and operations across the organization. You will collaborate with a distributed engineering team and play a central role in defining how infrastructure and platform engineering evolve over the next stage of growth. Role Overview As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will take ownership of key infrastructure and operational systems. You will guide the adoption of modern infrastructure practices, improve deployment workflows, and ensure the production environment remains stable, secure, and efficient. This role blends infrastructure engineering, developer platform work, and operational leadership. You will design systems that reduce operational friction while improving reliability and performance across a growing technology stack. The team operates remotely within the United States, collaborating primarily during Eastern Time working hours. Key Responsibilities Ensure production reliability and performance Oversee cloud infrastructure running on AWS, ensuring high availability, scalability, and predictable system performance. Manage capacity planning and proactively address potential reliability risks before they affect users. Establish Infrastructure as Code practices Lead the transition toward fully version controlled infrastructure using tools such as Terraform or similar frameworks. Create repeatable patterns and reviewable workflows so infrastructure changes are consistent, auditable, and safe. Improve release and deployment pipelines Enhance CI and CD systems supporting applications built in Ruby and WordPress. Build safer deployment strategies, faster release cycles, and reliable rollback processes that allow teams to deploy confidently. Evolve the container environment Manage and improve the current container platform built on Docker and Swarm while helping evaluate and plan a practical long term modernization path toward technologies such as ECS, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration systems. Create internal developer tools Build and maintain automation and internal tooling that simplify provisioning, deployments, and operational tasks. Much of this work will involve scripting or building developer tools in Ruby or similar languages. Strengthen platform security Implement secure by default practices including least privilege IAM policies, secure secret management, network segmentation, and reliable patch management across environments. Improve observability and diagnostics Enhance logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting systems so that engineers can quickly detect, diagnose, and resolve issues in production environments. Support emerging AI driven workflows Help design infrastructure patterns that safely enable AI tools and automated agents within the engineering workflow. Establish guardrails around credentials, evaluation systems, cost management, and secure sandbox environments. What You Bring Strong Cloud Infrastructure Experience Hands on experience operating production environments in AWS, including identity management, networking, compute services, data infrastructure, and monitoring tools. Infrastructure as Code expertise Experience designing and implementing IaC systems at scale, including reusable modules, environment structures, and infrastructure change workflows. Deep Linux and networking fundamentals Comfort troubleshooting complex production incidents across operating systems, networking layers, and distributed services. Developer Experience Mindset You care about improving how engineers build and ship software. Automation, developer tooling, and streamlined workflows are central to how you think about platform engineering. Ownership and initiative You thrive in smaller teams where engineers take responsibility for shaping systems, writing documentation, improving processes, and helping others succeed.
