Job Description
As a Senior Project Manager, your day is a dynamic blend of strategy, leadership, and execution—guiding complex product-development programs from early concept through commercial launch. You partner across functions to align vision, scope, and strategic business objectives, while translating ambiguity into clear, data-driven plans with measurable milestones. Whether you’re facilitating critical trade-off decisions, proactively surfacing and mitigating risks, preparing leaders for high-impact phase gate decisions, or actively managing the program budget through forecasting, tracking actuals, and course-correcting as needed, you act as the program’s champion—driving momentum, fostering collaboration, and raising the bar on how teams think, decide, and deliver results. How You’ll Make An Impact Lead a cross-functional team to develop new products from initiation through commercial launch, with the goal of delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed-upon schedule, resources, budget, and scope. Ensure alignment across product value proposition, project scope, and strategic business objectives. Directs the development of bottoms-up plans, ensures cross-functional alignment to plans, and maintains high-level and detailed plans through the use of daily management. Experience with Visual Project Management (VPM) preferred. Defines project resource needs and negotiates project resourcing plans. Works with functional leaders to ensure the appropriate resources are committed to the program and partners with functional managers to ensure performance excellence. Proactively manage project risks. Drive mechanisms and management techniques that ensure an open and transparent approach to the identification, communication, and timely resolution of issues, risks, and challenges affecting project deliverables. Analyze optionality and lead the team to recommend specific courses of action, articulating implications to customer value, budget, resources, and business case. Leads the team to prepare for Phase Gate and other Go/No-Go decisions by executive leadership, ensuring such decisions are informed by a balanced and clearly articulated representation of the relevant data. Actively manages project stakeholders, anticipating information and engagement needs, and making effective use of both formal and informal communication mechanisms. Ability to partner with an external R&D development partner, ensuring alignment of budget, schedule, cross-functional dependencies, compression opportunities and program risks. Oversees adherence to a structured design and development process, ensuring compliance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements where applicable. Ability to coach core team members in the use of project management tools, effective functional stakeholder management and functional risk management. What You Bring Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, business, or related field. Advanced degree and/or certification in a relevant area is preferred (e.g. MBA, PhD, MS, PMP) Work Experience: 15+ years experience in medical device or in-vitro diagnostic product-development project management. Experience leading complex instrument and assay-development projects is strongly preferred. Demonstrated capability to create, track and adjust annual project budgets, including forecasting, tracking actuals, identifying funding required to compress the schedule and risks of overspend. Experience in managing a $10M+ annual variable budget preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience with executive communication Exceptional leadership skills. Adept at leading with and without direct authority, orienting team members, leaders, and stakeholders around shared objectives. Demonstrated capability as a strategic decision-maker. Must have strong business acumen, critical-thinking skills, and the ability to link business and strategic objectives to detailed project plans. Raise the bar on critical thinking, challenging the team and the organization to rethink assumptions and approach challenges in new ways.
