Syensqo is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our Renewable Materials and Biotechnology Platform and lead early-stage innovation through the design, execution, and technical direction of microbial strain engineering and protein/enzyme engineering workflows. In this role, you will drive discovery, optimization, and scale-up of next-generation bio-based solutions by applying advanced experimental design, high-throughput screening strategies, and data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced, collaborative R&I environment. You will work at the interface of synthetic biology, microbial engineering, protein/enzyme engineering, and bioprocess development, partnering closely with cross-functional teams to translate experimental insights into robust strains, improved enzymes, and scalable processes that impact real-world products and sustainability-focused programs. We count on you for: Lead microbial strain engineering efforts using genome editing, pathway engineering, and library design to improve performance metrics (titer, rate, yield, robustness). Drive protein/enzyme engineering strategy, including variant design, mutagenesis, cloning, expression, and activity/stability characterization; define screening and down-selection criteria. Design and optimize high-throughput screening assays and workflows (plate-based and/or automation-enabled), including assay qualification and data quality standards. Provide technical leadership through rigorous documentation, interpretation, and communication of results; synthesize learnings, recommend next experiments, and proactively identify risks/opportunities. Collaborate cross-functionally to transition platform outputs into pipeline programs, including scale-up considerations, reproducibility, and technology transfer readiness. Champion lab and scientific excellence through EHS leadership, equipment readiness, protocol standardization, and continuous improvement of workflows. You will bring: PhD in Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field with 0–3+ years of relevant postdoctoral and/or industry experience (or equivalent track record). Demonstrated research experience in microbial strain engineering and/or protein/enzyme engineering , including experimental design and independent problem solving. You will get : Competitive salary and benefits package. The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $127,680 - $159,600 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
