Role As a Senior Staff Scientist, Benchtop blood gas – critical care to support new product development activities related to electrochemical biosensors/assays. The Senior Staff Scientist, benchtop blood gas - critical care will integrate within priority areas of need to assure timely, focused deliverables aligned with strategic direction. This role will support new product development initiatives through application of: Scientific rigor across all phases of the product development lifecycle Strong attention to detail and experimental design principles Proven problem-solving capabilities with a structured and methodical approach Extensive chemistry domain knowledge (e.g. electrochemistry, electrochemical sensing, material chemistry). As a Senior Staff Scientist, Benchtop blood gas - Critical Care you will be responsible for: Enforcing scientific rigor and excellence across all stages of assay / sensor development, ensuring that research outputs are robust, reproducible, and clinically relevant. Driving scientific understanding of assay design by applying fundamental scientific principles and first-principles thinking to guide innovation, troubleshoot challenges, and optimize performance. Leading the development of novel electrochemical assays and processes for the benchtop blood gas product line with a focus on critical care applications. Resolving complex technical challenges with structured problem-solving approaches, leveraging Siemens Healthineers tools and processes where applicable. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality systems in all research and development activities. Championing the use of statistical methods and data science practices to enable timely, data-driven decisions regarding assay design and performance. Mentoring and coaching junior scientists, fostering a culture of scientific curiosity, innovation, and continuous improvement. Collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, clinical, quality, marketing and regulatory teams to align scientific strategy with product development goals and patient needs. Required Qualifications MSc or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Materials Science or a related field. 10 + years of experience with electrochemical devices and/or sensing technologies 5 + years working on R&D projects within the medical device industry Proven track record of successful product development, including product launch, design for manufacturing and technical problem-solving Strong understanding of FDA Design Controls, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971. Experience writing design documentation and specifications that meet regulatory requirements. Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary team environment.
