Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and student-centered Social-Emotional & Behavior Paraprofessional to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. This role works alongside our Director of Social-Emotional Learning to support students in developing self-regulation, social skills, and positive behaviors. The ideal candidate will assist in classrooms, provide behavior intervention support, facilitate small-group social-emotional learning (SEL) instruction, and deliver weekly Fly Five SEL lessons in classrooms across the school. This individual should be relationship-driven, flexible, and committed to supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Key Responsibilities Student Support & Behavior Intervention Support students in the classroom by reinforcing social-emotional and behavioral strategies under the guidance of the Director of Social-Emotional Learning. Provide direct behavior intervention support to students, helping them regulate emotions and manage challenges in positive and productive ways. Assist with the implementation of individualized behavior plans, track student progress, and provide feedback to the support team. Serve as a positive role model for students, fostering a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging school environment. Social-Emotional Learning Instruction Lead or assist in small-group SEL instruction using evidence-based practices and restorative approaches. Deliver weekly classroom lessons utilizing the Fly Five Social-Emotional Learning curriculum for all grade levels. Support students in developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Collaboration & School Community Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to create consistent approaches to student support and behavior. Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other non-instructional times to promote positive interactions and safe behavior. Participate in professional development opportunities related to SEL, trauma-informed practices, behavior intervention, and restorative practices. Contribute positively to the overall culture and mission of Gordon Parks Elementary School. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred. Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly in behavior intervention, mentoring, or social-emotional support. Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to helping students grow socially and emotionally. Ability to remain calm, consistent, and supportive in challenging situations. Experience with trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches, or SEL curriculum implementation is preferred.
