Software Quality Engineer with Security Clearance

Software Quality Engineer Location: Richmond, VA (On-site) Salary Range: $75,000–$85,000 Employment Type: Full-Time Job Description Abel Personnel is supporting their client a well-established and highly respected organization, in the search for a Software Quality Engineer to join their Richmond, VA team. This is a hands-on, on-site role supporting mission-critical systems in a stable, long-term environment. The Software Quality Engineer will be responsible for testing, validation, and ongoing support of software systems, with a strong focus on system reliability, data integrity, and compliance. This role partners closely with development, operations, and client stakeholders and plays a key role throughout the full software development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Plan, design, and execute manual and system-level test cases across the SDLC Develop and maintain test plans, test documentation, and standard operating procedures Execute verification testing to ensure software meets functional and performance requirements Track, document, and report defects; work closely with development teams to validate fixes Validate backend data and system behavior using SQL queries Maintain and manage test environments, including production-aligned data Participate in internal project meetings and client-facing discussions Support software demonstrations and validation efforts as needed Monitor system performance and identify anomalies or quality issues Ensure compliance with audit and security requirements Provide third-tier support for escalated issues as needed Participate in on-call support rotations and occasional after-hours work Travel to support field locations as required Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field 4–7 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) Hands-on experience testing in Linux environments Working knowledge of SQL and database validation Experience creating test plans, test cases, and defect documentation Ability to work on-site in Richmond, VA Active or Interim Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) Preferred Skills Experience with DB2 databases Exposure to system-level or production support environments Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven systems Strong communication and documentation skills Why This Opportunity Work with a stable, well-known organization supporting critical systems Hands-on QA role with ownership and visibility Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package Long-term growth opportunity in a collaborative environment Benefits Generous PTO Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance 401(k) Life Insurance How to Apply Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply through ClearanceJobs or contact Laura Gutshall at Abel Personnel for additional information.
