Position Overview Siemens Mobility Rail Division has an immediate opening for Software Validation Engineer at our Sacramento, California Facility. In this role as a member of the Electrical Engineering department, the candidate will initially lead the transfer of existing and build-up of new hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches for all product lines developed in Sacramento (locomotives, passenger coaches, Light Rail vehicles) as well as the maintenance and modification of their simulation software. Later the candidate will transition into a Software Validation role responsible for creating and performing software tests to confirm the functionality of various train control and monitoring software packages created by the development group to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. To support the growing need for automation and increased efficiency, this role shall also implement means of automated testing and AI-assisted procedure generation in collaboration with the AI architect and other stakeholders. Initial Responsibilities In Lab Admin Role Modifying or building test setups from wiring and parts information under observation of relevant rules for electrical safety and workmanship Configuration, loading and execution of both embedded code for control system components and simulation software for test execution Configuration of network equipment such as managed Ethernet switches with necessary rulesets and other settings reflecting the desired vehicle control architecture Adjustment of simulation environment to new project needs and changes in hardware configuration Additional Responsibilities To Be Added In Software Validation Role Interprets all relevant customer and internal functional requirements and translates them into software test specifications and performs testing on various HIL test benches Interfaces with system engineers, other Validation engineers and software developers, clarifying desired functionality and reviewing code Understands logic diagrams, software logic functions Understands requirements of relevant standards like EN 50657 and safety related topics like SIL levels and associated architectures Supports testers and commissioning technicians on-site to troubleshoot and to resolve software related engineering issues on the vehicles Write software test documentation according to IEEE 1558 To Thrive In This Role, You Have Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / IT or Electrical Engineering with 2 or more years of relevant work experience (preferred). Associate degree in Engineering with 5 or more years of relevant work experience.
