Job Description
Sow Production Supervisor Job Summary Direct and oversee sow farms managed by Suidae Health & Production that are assigned to your supervision. Reports to the Sow Production Manager. This position will support our farms in Eastern Iowa and the ideal candidate should reside or be willing to relocate near Cedar Rapids/Waterloo, Iowa areas. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ensure assigned farms meet company productivity, throughput (gilt development, breeding/farrowing), pigs shipped, and herd efficiency targets. Provide clear direction and constructive feedback to farm managers; support personnel development and retention. Provide cost-control oversight to meet budgeted financial performance. Ensure adherence to environmental, herd health, bio-security, animal welfare, personnel management, and safety policies. Ensure facilities/equipment are properly maintained and kept clean, neat, and organized. Provide hands-on problem-solving support to improve lagging operational areas. Conduct routine farm visits; submit written reports; review production data; create and drive action plans. Coordinate replacement gilt orders and verify animal-flow projections meet quality/productivity expectations. Communicate productivity and disease issues to the Veterinarian and Director of Sow Farm Management. Collaborate with Suidae teams (HR, veterinary, records, health, supplies, pig flow, accounting). Participate in management meetings; suggest productivity/profitability improvements. Attend farm owner meetings and keep owners informed of significant operational changes. Use data and science for decision making. Regular use of phone, computer, and Outlook calendar; other duties as assigned. Primary Skills & Knowledge 5+ years successful sow farm management experience. Ability to achieve industry-leading results across diverse personalities; self-starter with high expectations. Customer-service focused, team player; organized with strong time management. Good verbal, written and oral communication; Outlook/Word/Excel proficiency; multi-tasking ability required. Ability to lift a minimum 50 lbs without assistance. Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance; frequent regional travel with occasional overnights.
