Job Description
Positions in this class are responsible for leading and executing projects, research and project management to include financial, managerial, staff coordination, operations and logistics. This position is responsible for providing operational support for various divisions within the RRHA and therefore it is necessary to have effective inter-departmental communication. Many projects may be out of the scope of RRHA’s regular functions. This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Communications and Public Relations Essential Duties and Responsibilities The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed. Strong writer and proofreader with the ability to create newsletters, communications plans and strategies with budgets. Graphic design of flyers Coordination and logistics for RRHA annual Agency-wide events, Agency special events, press conferences and announcements. Familiarity with traditional and alternative social media platforms and the ability to use them to get RRHA’s message out to a wide audience. Ongoing implementation and augmentation of comprehensive External Communications Plan (residents, stakeholders, partners, community liaisons, city officials, faith community and so on) Create plan and strategies for Communications/PR Revenue Opportunities (Bill inserts, Fundraising Masquerade Ball, RRHA Blog, RRHA History Book, RRHA Calendars) Liaison to RRHA divisions for event coordination and implementation. Creation and execution of an RRHA Community Events Strategy Market research based on communications, outreach and public relations related inquiries that might come by way of public housing residents, voucher recipients, stakeholders, community advocates and partners and prepare written reports on the same. Field reporter for communications campaigns and events (photography, videography and small degree of editing) Keeps supervisor informed of significant and important items requiring his/her review or action. Attends meeting on behalf of supervisor or work unit. Performs other related work as assigned. Job Competencies Considerable knowledge of software applications to include graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, website development applications such as WordPress, videography software and Microsoft Suite to include Excel, Word. Ability to compose articles, stories, scripts, and letters. Familiarity with working in a corporate office environment. Ability to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand language. Education and/or Experience (The following requirements may be used to evaluate applicants for employment. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for differences in experience and education.) Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in communications, management or related field. Experience: Progressively responsible experience providing administrative or secretarial/clerical support to an administrative superior involving substantial public contact, information gathering, and policy interpretation. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in local, state, or federal government, a plus, but not a requirement. Strength Requirements Medium to Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
