Job Description
Altru Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Altru Health System, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in our rehabilitation department. In this patient-centered role, you will provide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders for a diverse adult and, when appropriate, pediatric population. Working in close collaboration with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you will develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support optimal functional outcomes and quality of life. As a Speech Pathologist at Altru Rehabilitation Hospital, you will conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including standardized testing, bedside and instrumental dysphagia evaluations as appropriate to training and equipment availability, and ongoing reassessment to monitor progress. You will design and deliver therapy sessions that may include individual and group treatment, caregiver training, and education focused on communication strategies, swallowing safety, and compensatory techniques. Accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and clear communication of goals, progress, and recommendations to patients, families, and the care team are essential aspects of this position. You will play an important role in discharge planning and care transitions, providing recommendations for continued therapy, home programming, and durable medical equipment or communication devices as needed. The role may include opportunities to participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and education for staff, students, and community partners. Altru Health System fosters a collaborative environment that emphasizes compassionate care, innovation in treatment, and a strong commitment to community health and wellness, and you will be encouraged to contribute to this culture through professional engagement and continuous learning. Candidates should bring a solid foundation in evidence-based speech-language pathology practice, strong clinical reasoning, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Employees at Altru can expect engaging, patient-centered work with opportunities for professional growth, including mentorship, continuing education support, and participation in interdisciplinary projects. This position is well-suited for clinicians who value teamwork, are committed to delivering high-quality rehabilitative care, and are motivated to improve the lives of patients and families in the Grand Forks community and the surrounding region.
