POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Board Approved December 17, 2018 TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist JOB GOALS: To provide speech-language services to students To provide consultative and collaborative services to teachers, parents, administrators, and staff FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Special Education Coordinator and Principal MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university Possess and maintain an appropriate certification as required by the SDE Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alabama Board of Examiner’s for Speech- Language Pathology and Audiology license Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license Ability to provide personal transportation for vising work sites as directed Good public relations skills Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Ability to solve problems as a productive team member. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and priorities. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks efficiently. Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students. Demonstrates and models regular and predictable attendance. Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all times. Demonstrates the ability to use technology for communication, presentations, research, data analysis, budgeting, record keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required. Evaluates and identifies students requiring special education speech language services. Assists teachers in the identification of children with communicative disorders. Assists case managers in the development and implement IEPs to meet the unique needs of each student receiving therapy services and recommends speech improvement plans. Refers students to other professional and community agencies as needed. Informs and disseminates information to administrators, teachers, parents, and other members of the IEP team about student progress and development. Provides speech language services to eligible PreK-12 th grade students. Engages in personal and professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and leadership. Assists in conducting meetings with parents. Maintains competency in state and federal guidelines, local school board policies and procedures and other documents related to IDEA and special education services. Participates in IEP, 504, and/or PST meetings as needed. Assists students with disabilities to them reach their full potential. Uses appropriate software and technology for communication, record keeping, and reporting as required. Communicates with Special Education Coordinator and staff all matters related to purchasing of supplies and equipment needed. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to the Special Education Coordinator. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively
