Position Title:Sports Camp Counselor Primary Summary Sports Camp Counselors provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate camp experience for children through structured sports activities and games.Counselors model YMCA core values--honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring--while supporting skill development, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship.Essential Functions Supervise children at all times, prioritizing safety and adherence to YMCA risk management policies Lead and actively participate in organized sports activities and games Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and age-appropriate skill development Manage behavior using appropriate discipline techniques Communicate with parents, co-workers, and supervisors regarding participant needs or concerns Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and program events Maintain care of facilities, equipment, and supplies Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, including child safety standards Arrive on time, prepared, and dressed appropriately Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Minimum age:18 Experience working with school-age children preferred Interest or experience in sports or recreational programming preferred Basic knowledge of a variety of sports and age-appropriate sport skills, with the ability to teach and model fundamental techniques.Ability to work outdoors and remain physically active Successful completion of background check and Child Abuse & Neglect screening Required certifications (First Aid/CPR/AED, YMCA trainings) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during camp sessions.
