Here's a summary of responsibilities: Under the direction and supervision of the Lead Sports Dietitian, the Sports Dietitian provides evidence-based nutrition expertise and education to Team USA athletes in alignment with the USOPC Sports Medicine vision, purpose, and the broader strategic goals of the sports nutrition program. This position collaborates closely with Sport Performance and NGB teams to implement, advance, and promote high-quality nutrition services to athletes utilizing the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Centers (OPTCs), while also partnering with NGB providers to ensure seamless coordination and continuity of care across the athlete support network. Here’s how you’ll have an impact: Support Team USA athletes in areas such as daily nutrition for performance and health, recovery nutrition strategies, weight and body composition issues, nutrition disorders/disordered eating, and supplement safety and usage. This will be accomplished through collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of providers at the USOPC, NGB and USOP Medical Network to determine and deliver the appropriate testing (e.g., labs), follow-up, and services for Olympic and Paralympic athletes both at the OPTCs and virtually. Collaborate with Sports Medicine Data Scientists, Research, Sport Science and Performance teams, along with coaches and NGB medical staff to identify trends, inform research priorities, and plan and implement evidence-based strategies to enhance performance, support nutritional health, and reduce injury and illness risk for Team USA athletes, including coordinated case management strategies. Conduct screening, consultations, and sports nutrition program development for Team USA athletes during Elite Athlete Health & Performance Profiles (EAHPP), Athlete Recovery Program, and other key performance medical touchpoints, and provide targeted follow-up for athletes flagged through EAHPPs or testing results. Design and supervise recovery nutrition strategies, including Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), in accordance with professionally accepted Standards of Care to optimize athlete health and performance. Evaluate athlete energy expenditure, energy balance, body composition, and weight management needs using accepted diagnostic tools (e.g., ISAK, DXA, and other appropriate assessment methods), and provide individualized protocols to support performance health goals. Provide individualized nutrition support for athletes experiencing disordered eating, eating disorders, Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), and related health and performance concerns through collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Lead individual, small group, and team-based performance nutrition education and contribute to the development and delivery of nutrition education programs for athletes (resident and visiting), coaches, staff, and food service personnel, utilizing interactive teaching kitchen activities, demonstrations, and a variety of in-person and digital platforms, including applied presentations for professional staff and coaching audiences. Serve as a Sports Dietitian primary point of contact (PPC) for assigned NGBs, supporting coordinated service delivery and continuity of care. Remain current on the leading research globally in sport dietetics and translate the latest scientific evidence into practical, applied sport nutrition recommendations. Design, track, and document measurable outcomes of nutrition services, and evaluate program effectiveness through analysis and interpretation of collected data to enhance athlete performance and health. Work closely with the Lead Sports Dietitian to support athletes and NGB providers with nutrition recommendations during domestic and international travel to optimize preparation for training and competition. Contribute to the development, training and resources for Sports Dietitians across NGB teams. Evaluate food and herbal supplements for legality, safety, and efficacy, and provide evidence-based recommendations to support athlete performance and health objectives.
