Job Description
About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Responsibilities As a Sr. Battery Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the HV Battery Pack Systems Engineering, focusing on the following aspects of the HV Energy Storage System (ESS). You will lead the pack level systems design process to analyze vehicle, powertrain, and end-user specifications to derive pack system requirements. International Regulatory Decomposition & Compliance: Lead the process of translating international regulations, including EU 2023/1542 (Battery Passport), EC No 1907/2006 (REACH), and ECE R100, into actionable battery pack and sub-system requirements. You will ensure the battery's conformity with relevant requirements by generating technical documentation and performing risk assessments as required. Legislative Requirements & RVT: Lead the decomposition of legislative requirements and the creation of associated test cases. You will establish Requirements Verification Traceability (RVT) to ensure every legislative mandate is linked to a verified test result. Coordinate with test and validation teams for scheduling, lead test kickoff reviews, and perform final report signoff. Outsourced Program Management: Act as the single point of ownership for requirements used for outsourced battery pack programs. This includes defining the Statement of Requirements (SoR) for RFQs, responding to supplier feedback, managing requirements, creating and linking test cases, and tracking validation status through program milestones. Thermal Systems & Modeling Coordination: Own the maintenance and decomposition of thermal system requirements into component-level requirements. You will manage the thermal subsystem DFMEA and support Component DREs in their DFMEA elicitation. Coordinate closely with System Modeling teams to ensure thermal requirements align with 1D/3D modeling outputs. Validation & Audit Readiness: Cascade sub-system requirements, validation procedures, and verification traceability. Ensure all technical documentation is maintained and accessible as defined by Rivian's data management policies. Cross-functional Leadership: Chair DFMEA working sessions and maintain the DFMEA as the development program matures. Work alongside Battery Control Systems, Cell/Module, and Mechanical Structures Engineers to ensure robust traceability. Qualifications Experience: 5+ years of work experience in Battery and/or Automotive industries. Education: At least a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. Regulatory Expertise: Strong understanding of High Voltage Safety and international battery regulations. Experience launching a high voltage battery pack is preferred. Experience launching a BEV in the EU and international markets is a strong nice to have. Technical Mastery: Holistic understanding of thermal and electrical interdependence in battery pack design. Systems Engineering Tools: Proficiency with automated requirements management tools (e.g., JAMA, Doors, Polarion) and issue tracking tools like JIRA. Communication: Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing. Adaptability: Ability to work within dynamic development timelines and accelerated hardware production cadences. Pay Disclosure The salary range for this role is USD 121,500 - 151,900 for California based applicants.
