Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Staff Accountant/Book Keeper to join our dynamic finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial health of our organization through meticulous bookkeeping, financial reporting, and accounting management. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting principles, proficiency with various financial software, and a passion for maintaining accurate financial records. Duties Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage. Prepare and interpret financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards. Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including ledger maintenance and accrual accounting procedures. Support internal controls compliance by adhering to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and assisting with audits. Maintain detailed records of financial transactions, including debits & credits, cash flow analysis, and account reconciliation reports. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiatives to support strategic decision-making. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on regulatory reporting, tax filings, and special projects such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) or governmental accounting requirements. Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts, best practices in bookkeeping, and use of accounting software like PeopleSoft or Xero. Ensure compliance with securities law, estate law (wills & trusts), and other relevant legal frameworks affecting financial operations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus. Proven experience in corporate accounting, public accounting or non-profit accounting environments. Strong knowledge of GAAP standards, financial concepts, double entry bookkeeping, and accrual accounting methods. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft or similar platforms. Experience with SOX compliance, regulatory reporting and governmental accounting practices. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately. Familiarity with tax regulations related to non-profit organizations or real estate projects like LIHTC is advantageous. Strong attention to detail paired with effective organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently. Demonstrated mentoring abilities to guide team members in technical accounting procedures. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, budgeting, forecasting and report writing.
